Trump and Rubio consider removing U.S. ambassador to Greece

President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are reportedly considering removing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle following reports alleging improper conduct.

The Associated Press reported that allegations include questionable gifts, dealings involving a political donor and the possible use of diplomatic influence for personal benefit. The State Department’s inspector general was reported to be looking into the matter, although it was unclear whether a formal investigation had begun.

Guilfoyle’s lawyers have denied wrongdoing, saying payments she sought related to previously unpaid speaking engagements and that her private travel complied with State Department rules.

Why it matters: The situation could create diplomatic complications for U.S.–Greece relations and raise questions about ethics and oversight in diplomatic appointments. The allegations have not been established as proven misconduct, and a possible dismissal remained under consideration in the report.
